Fireproof Movie Review

Mike & I went to the movie "Fireproof" yesterday with our church small group. First of all, the movie was awesome! Mike & I both loved it! What a great message! I highly recommend it - especially if you're married. LOVED IT! And bring the tissues (I cried, but Mike just said his allergies were bothering him. ??). :)

Now this was also Lily's 1st official time with a babysitter and she had the time of her life. She went over to the home of a couple friends - 4 yr old & 2 yr old girls. She had so much fun with them and the babysitter that she did NOT want to leave. (Isn't she too young to already think her parents are lame?) She was very upset when we took her to the car, but it was obvious that she was also exhausted. She slept really good that night.

Two very different houses...

House #1 A 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400 per month. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Norther n or Midwestern 'snow belt' area. It's in the South.

House #2 Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.

The water (usually 67 degrees F) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Waste water from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville , Tennessee ; it is the abode of the 'environmentalist ' Al Gore.

HOUSE #2 is on a ranch near Crawford , Texas ; it is the residence of the President of the United States , George W. Bush.

An 'inconvenient truth.'

You can verify it at :

My Favorite Things

The Pampered Chef Garlic Press

I've had this press for about 7-8 yrs.
I got it as a gift from my mom who LOVES it too.
She has tried many others & says this one is the best.
It's heavy duty and so easy.

Step 1 : Place clove of garlic in press (skin and all)

Step 2: Squeeze press over bowl

Step 3: Open Press

Step 4: Remove skin and toss

It's that easy. I LOVE IT!!

Lily's Favorite Things 9/22

Lily's favorite thing this week is the Helium Balloon she got for free at Kroger on Sunday. I didn't know this, but they give a free balloon to any child that asks. How nice - something to amuse Lily when I have to take her shopping with me. This might become my favorite thing too. :) Anyway, she loved it!! She carried it around with her all day - she took it upstairs, downstairs, outside, next to her chair during our meals, and even took it on our family walk that evening. I'm not sure how much attention it got today because I was at work, but I'm sure it was not totally forgotten. :)

My Favorite Things 9/15

OK, this is pretty nerdy, but I really love my phone.

I can so much with it. I keep all my to do lists, shopping lists, appointments, and contact information (including email addresses and addresses) in it. It's also my backup alarm clock, my mp3 player, my CVS calculator, and my work drug reference guide. I also take occasional pictures (when I don't have my regular camera available) and play games (like bejeweled which is way to addicting). I LOVE that it's so easy to text on because it has a mini keyboard - I use that feature A LOT!!!! But, the best thing is that I can also play movies on it. This comes in very handy when my little Lily doesn't want to calm down on the plane - she loves the movie "Barbie Mariposa."

So, there you have it. This is probably one of my all time favorite things right now. I would be lost without it. (And yes, that's a pink case :)

Lily's Log Book

It's the perfect size, padded, and has a great elastic band to keep it closed. The only problem (& big one for me) is that's it's NOT acid free and all that. Has anyone seen anything like this, but is of scrapbooking quality? I'd love to switch over to something that will last longer. Anyway...

Page 1 - Her first flight when she was 3 months old to MT. Ahhhh. I usually have the Captain or FO fill in the Date, flight number, destination, miles, and a short note to Lily.

Page 2 - 2nd flight (back home from MT)

Page 3 - 3rd Flight to TX with Daddy flying

Those are the only pages I've put together so far. I'd like to make flights 1-10 look like these and then do something much simpler after that. It has been a fun project though and I hope we can keep it up. It will be neat to look back at all the places she's been.

Great Coupon Flyer at Publix

I had picked up this flyer last Sunday at Publix and just looked at it today. It's contains some great Mannufacture's coupons - NOT Publix coupons. There are some good ones like:

  • $1.oo off Multi-Grain Cheerrios which you can get for 0.30 this week at Kroger with this coupon (see Stretching a Buck for details)
  • $1.00 off Green Giant Frozen veggies Steamers which you can get for 0.27/ea at Walmart ($1.27 Reg price - 1.00 Q = 0.27)

I was pretty excited because I had been looking for more of these without any luck until today. :)

Loving the Moment

My "Loving the Moment" moment this week: Walks with Lily

The picture below is Lily ready to go on another one of our walks together (the sunglasses only stayed on for the photo). We usually have such a nice relaxing time. She really enjoys it and sometimes even falls asleep. We talk about various things and take a look at anything and everything going on throughout our journey. I especially enjoy it when we get a strong enough breeze at just the right location and just the right time (which doesn't happen very often in GA) that I can momentarily close my eyes and imagine standing at the edge of the breaks in back of my parents farm in Montana. Now that's a relaxing walk...

So, what's your "Loving the Moment" moment this week? It doesn't have to be anything profound or dramatic because most of the time it's the little things that make your heart smile the most.

Please, include a link back to my site.

What are you reading?

As Lily is becoming less and less a baby and more and more of a little girl, it's becoming quite apparent to Mike & I that she's gonna make us work hard at this parenting stuff. She's only 15 months old and already throwing temper tantrums. Her last major one was on our flight back from Wilmington, NC. It was only an hour long flight and I'm pretty sure she was having a fit for at least 1/2 - 3/4 of it which felt like an eternity to me. I was so traumatized that I got home and told Mike, "That's it!! We're buying a new book!" :)

To find out what more people are reading visit A Stitch of Faith.

Tip of the week

Did you know that clutter takes up the majority of your cleaning time - about 80%. So, cut out the clutter and drastically cut down on your cleaning time. WOW! Now if only it were that easy. :)

Check out Total Mom for more great tips on all sorts of stuff.

My Favorite Things

This is my first "My Favorite Things" post, so I thought about it long and hard. This is what I came up with - The Baby Bjorn Soft Bib in red. I've tried several others and this is the absolute best. My husband would agree. First of all, it holds its shape and actually catches food in the pouch. Secondly, Lily can't pull it off - which is something she was having quite a bit of fun doing with the others. Third, it doesn't get stained because it's already red - plus it's so easy to clean. And last but most importantly, Lily seems to even like it. Now it's not a miracle bib - it doesn't keep your child from throwing food onto the floor nor can it keep your child from tipping the bib up and dumping all the pouch contents onto their face. :) But all in all, I'd still say it's pretty awesome.
